STUDIO RECORDING AND GUITAR LESSONS
Qwiksword productions is owned and operated by Scott Foster. Scott’s goal is to provide a fun and educational experience for youngsters and adults who want to expand their abilities to make beautiful music.
Too many young people give up trying to learn to play music because of the stiff and structured approach most music instructors take. With Scott’s approach to teaching, kids and adults have a blast learning. Scott starts them off with a few easy lessons to quickly build confidence in their own abilities and gives them the spark of desire to learn more. Through the course of his lessons all the “important stuff” is right there. It’s just funner getting there by actually playing the songs they like and learning some really cool techniques that the pros use right off the bat.
It is very, very common for students to get discouraged because he/she is set in a room full of other aspiring music makers, only to be thrown some unintelligible writings on a sheet of paper and then be expected to understand and play right away. Have you ever heard the cacophony of noise coming from a big class of out of tune students?…..How could anyone expect to learn from or enjoy that?! Scott’s class sizes are small and very personalized. He does private instruction in your home or in his studio.
Every one of Scott’s students is given direct, personal attention to their instruction and technique. Scott has an in-home studio that has all the equipment necessary to front and record a full stage band. His 30+ years of playing the guitar (acoustic, electric, classical, slide and 12-string), bass, keyboards, drums and other instruments and his recording of them gives him an edge to understand how all of the pieces of the music need to fit to make beautiful music.
For the guitar and bass instruction course the student will learn the following areas
1. Guitar Anatomy
2. How to be comfortable with finger and hand technique
3. How to tune the guitar like a professional
4. How to listen and ear training
5. Strumming and finger picking techniques
6. Reading guitar tablature
7. Where to find your favorite guitar tabs for free on-line
8. Basic open style chords
9. How to approach learning new songs
10. Tricks the pros use (tapping, bends, trills, pick scrapes and other cool stuff)
11. Harmonics
12. Power chords
13. Barre chords
14. Rock, Blues, country and Jazz styles
15. Soloing
16. Using amplification to get the killer sounds
17. Sound effects from the guitar and effects boxes
18. Playing with groups
19. Writing and developing their own music
20. Recording (each student will write a song, record it, master it and burn his own CD!)
And most importantly….
PLAYING SONGS, PLAYING SONGS, PLAYING SONGS !!!!!!
Lessons are provided on week nights. Some weekend hours may also be arranged. Rates are $15 per one-half hour, or $25 per one hour, weekly lesson. He also is an accredited instructor for Merced Charter schools and can help arrange subsidized payments by them or other school systems.
He has guitars for students so they don’t have to have one of their own and he will help get them great deals when they want to buy one that is perfect for them. He is not affiliated with any guitar store, so he is not going to push some overpriced, poor quality product. Studio recording is also available. The studio uses the newest computer recording software and interfaces and can accommodate full band production. Call for pricing.
Scott believes every person should have the opportunity to enjoy this, no matter what their financial ability is. Talk to him if you don’t think you can afford it. Scott will work with you to make sure no child is left behind! To him the music is more important than the money.
