I received my Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, and have taught Mathematics courses from Basic Algebra through Geometry and Trigonometry to Advanced Calculus. I used my mathematical background for twenty years while working as a scientist and Director of Research. I have taught at two community colleges, Western International University, and have been tutoring privately for four years.
I work best with my students by asking them to send me a copy of their present or past math work with which they have had difficulty. I correct the work, giving extremely detailed explanations of basic methods and concepts, one mathematical step per line. On-Line work is normally returned within 24 hours, with suggestions for study. The student is encouraged to ask questions, either by telephone or by e-mail.
If the work is sent to me as a scanned attachment, having been hand-written, I may return it as an attachment, with corrections in RED and explanations high-lighted in GREEN. The advantage to the student is he/she is able to concentrate on the written material, as opposed to merely listening closely and making notes during a tutoring session. I would be pleased to have you send me a sample page with several problems so you may evaluate the method.
My tutoring rate for this type of work is $25-30 per hour, and I'm reasonably generous in my time. You may call me almost anytime if you would like more information.
